About the school:

Quality RYA/MCA Powerboat and Shorebased Training from Complete Beginner (including Level 2/ICC) to Advanced Powerboat Instructor (including Commercial Endorsement).  All courses are delivered by Professional, Experienced Instructors with a Passion for Powerboating.  We train 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year.

Whether you are a complete beginner (level 1 or level 2), at Intermediate, Advanced (including Commercial Endorsement) or even Instructor level, we have a course available for you. We provide the full range of RYA powerboat courses including the ICC - International Certificate of Competence, CEVNI test (free if you take a practical course with us), VHF/DSC Radio, Sea Survival, First Aid, Day Skipper Shorebased and Yachtmaster Shorebased courses. Before, during and after your course our professional, experienced instructors are always on hand to answer any questions you might have.

Our main teaching boat is a 5.8m Tornado RIB with twin new 60hp four stroke engines.  This provides an excellent combination of comfort, safety and speed.  It is fitted with all the latest electronics including a Colour GPS/Chartplotter, Echo Sounder and DSc VHF Radio.  We also have access to a variety of single and twin engine boats and specialise in providing own boat tuition.

Courses are run from our well equipped training centre in Plymouth, except for own boat courses where we can come to your boat Nationwide.  Our centre is easily reached by road from across Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Bristol and the rest of the South West.

We are dedicated to powerboat training, giving us the edge over the various sailing schools in the area which only offer powerboating as a sideline.  We also operate a maximum ratio of 3 students per instructor on all practical courses (6:1 on shorebased courses), enabling us to offer the personal touch that larger centres are unable to.  Our suburb location offers ample parking, a well equipped classroom, free refreshments and easy access to the water.

We have all tidal access to the open waters of Plymouth Sound (the largest naval port in the United Kingdom), together with the shelter of the Rivers Plym and Tamar.  This unique range of operating areas enables us to train safely in virtually all weather conditions.  We have never had to cancel a course due to the weather.

The school's Principal in Michael Whelan.  He is a fully qualified RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor, Senior Sailing Instructor, VHF/DSC Radio Instructor and Shorebased Instructor with over 5000 teaching hours gained at various locations around the globe.  Michael has extensive experience at powerboat driving, navigation, dinghy and yacht sailing and holds qualifications in offshore navigation, sea survival, first aid, GMDSS radio operation, inboard diesel and outboard engine servicing and maintenance.
