About the school:

David Hickman's school offers Powerboat Instruction courses, both R.Y.A. Powerboat courses and specialised RIB & Powerboat training for both the private individual and the commercial powerboat user.

Gain your International Certificate of Competence (ICC) which is required should you wish to take your own boat, or drive one, abroad. Learn on your own boat or on one of our high performance RIBs. We have a 5.8m 100hp Ribeye Dive, and also a 7.2m 200hp Ribeye Dive for more advanced courses. Both of these boats are MCA/Dtp Coded for use offshore. Courses are available all year round from Brixham and Dartmouth.

All of our courses are available to be taught on your own boat or on one of our RIBs. Customers own boats will be required to meet a minimum level of safety criteria. Torbay and Dartmouth Powerboat School offer the RYA Powerboat courses Level 1, 2 and the Advanced Certificate for the more experienced powerboat user. We also offer an International Certificate of Competence (I.C.C.) course and other various specialised courses, as well as a powerboat delivery and collection service, and services for new boat owners or those looking for a RIB/Powerboat.

Torbay & Dartmouth Powerboat School operates out of the historic fishing port of Brixham and also out of the naval port of Dartmouth.
Brixham is located within Torbay, South Devon. Torbay is one of the finest watersport locations within the United Kingdom, and is host to numerous sailing and powerboating events such as the Around Alone Yacht race, National Cadet Championships and the Torbay Classic Powerboat Championships.

Brixham offers plenty of good quality accommodation ranging from the Berry Head Hotel to many Bed & Breakfast establishments. The port has an excellent marina which is home to at least 400 boats all year round.  Dartmouth’s history is predominantly based around the presence of the Royal Navy who have their Officers Training College at the top of the town. There are 3 marinas available for visiting yachts, together with numerous restaurants and hotels. The River Dart is an interesting stretch of water to explore if the weather prevents voyages out to sea.

Principle Instructor, David Hickman, is an RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor. He has many years experience with powerboats, which includes a 6-year period in an RNLI Inshore lifeboat crew in Wales. He works for other powerboat schools as well as running his own in Torbay & Dartmouth.

All other instructors are vetted to ensure they meet a minimal standard of qualifications and nautical experience.
Also, in the same area is our sister company Brixham Ribs, which offers skippered RIB charter for trips around the coast. Charters are also available for Corporate Hospitality, Special Occasions, TV/Film companies and Safety/Rescue duties for all water sports.
